Apple TV App (tvOS) Streaming
HOW DO I WATCH THESE FILMS USING MY APPLE TV?
Install the Academy’s tvOS app. From the Apple TV menu, go to the App Store and install the “Academy Screening Room” app. Enter your Academy member username and password.
WHICH APPLE TV’S ARE COMPATIBLE WITH THE ACADEMY'S TVOS APP?
Apple TV (tvOS 11.0 or later, Apple TV generation 4 or higher)
WHAT IS REQUIRED FOR THE ACADEMY'S TVOS APP?
The Academy's tvOS app requires an Apple TV (tvOS 11.0 or later, Apple TV generation 4 or higher), HDMI cable, Television, Internet, and an Academy Member account.
HOW DO I UPDATE THE TVOS APP?
Members will not have to update the tvOS app as long as the Apple TV "Software Updates" setting is set to "Update Automatically". The app will be automatically updated as new app versions become available. The version can be found in the app under SETTINGS.
For security purposes, session limits are applied on the tvOS app. When session limits are reached, members must enter their username and password again to access the app.
STREAMING ACROSS DEVICES
The maximum number of concurrent streaming devices is limited to one per member. If you have an active session on another device, you must close it to proceed with using the Academy's tvOS app.
HOW DO I SEARCH FOR A FILM?
Members can search for film titles across genres using the “Search” function in the top right corner.
WILL FILMS HAVE CLOSED CAPTIONING AND SUBTITLES AVAILABLE?
Closed captions and subtitles are available across a wide variety of content on the Academy Screening Room. You can enable, disable, and format them on all supported devices.
VIDEO AND AUDIO PLAYBACK QUALITY
Content on the Academy Screening Room is available in various video and audio qualities including High Definition, Ultra HD 4K, Stereo and 5.1 surround sound. The quality of the film is based on what is delivered by the studios and your internet connection. To ensure the best streaming experience, we recommend an internet connection of at least 25 Mbps.
HOW TO RESTART THE TVOS APP
If the Academy Screening Room tvOS app unexpectedly stops responding or won't open, please force quit and restart the app using the following instructions from Apple: Double press the TV/Home button and swipe left or right to find the app with the issue. Then swipe up to close the app.
